Why a Free Walking Tour?

For many tourists, the Free Walking Tour concept is an alternative to traditional guided tours. Free Tours are already available in many cities around the world and are designed for solo travellers. Contrary to regular tour services, there is not a set price that you have to pay in advance for taking a tour. Instead, you pay the amount that you consider appropriate after your tour experience by tipping your guide. ´Free´ doesn't mean worthless – just the opposite is the case. Our guides don´t receive any other income apart from the tips from their guests, so they work extra hard to make sure that you have a great time on the tour. Instead of lapsing into routine after a while, their motivation to provide a top-quality tour has to be high – day by day, tour by tour. In Krakow, the price for a guided tour generally starts from 50 PLN per person depending on the size of the group and you have to pay regardless of whether you are satisfied with the tour or not. Our Free Walking Tours let you decide how much the tour is worth.

How can I join?

Generally, it is not required to book a spot for our free walking tours. Demand for our Free Walking Tours is very high during the summer season, so we advise you to make a reservation in advance. You can book up to 9 spots per tour through our website if there are still free places on your de-sire date. After your booking, you will receive a confirmation. The day of your Free Tour you should show up at the meeting point 10 minutes before your tour starts and ´check-in´ with our day manager.

Where does the tour start and end?

All of our tours start at our meeting point in front of Saint Mary’s Basilica (Church) on the main square of Krakow. Look for our green umbrella!

Our Old Town tours finish around the Wawel Castle (15 mins walking from main market square). Our Jewish Quarter tours finish around Heroes of the Ghetto square (30 min walking / 3 tram stops from main market square)

Our Free Walking Tours lead through the center of the city. Our guides offer a unique tour, but in general you will see the inner city´s highlights. Please note, that you won´t enter any sights or museums and therefore the tour doesn't include any entrance fees. In addition to architecture and his-tory, you will learn quite a lot about the local traditions and hear some interesting gossip and legends about the city!

How big are the groups?

Due to the nature of walking tours, we aim to keep tour groups small and below 35 guests. There are rare exceptions during the high season, but 40 guests is our absolute maximum tour group size.

Is there a minimum of participants?

There is a minimum of 4 participants for our Free Tours.

What about tipping the guide?

Our Free Walking Tour guides don´t receive any set income from the company, they work on a tips-only basis. You get to decide how much his or her tour was worth to you. It´s recommended to bring small notes with you on the tour, so you can adapt the amount you want to tip your guide based on the tour quality and your level of satisfaction.

Can children join the tour?

Children under 16 years accompanied by a parent are very welcome on our Free Walking Tours, there is no need to book for them in advance.

Are the tours accessible for wheelchairs?

Our tours through old town contain a few inclines and uneven surfaces, such as cobblestones, and can easily last 2,5 hours. Despite this, they are all manageable for wheelchair users, as long as they are accompanied by an able-bodied individual.

Are there any restrooms on the way?

Don´t worry! When you have a sudden need during the tour, there are several restrooms on the way. Just let your guide know and they will look for an appropriate stop. Most guides also offer a little tour break in a restaurant, where you can find food and drinks, restrooms, and free Wi-Fi.

Why aren´t all your tours free tours?

We think that a Free Walking Tour is the best option to get introduced to a city – and everybody should have the possibility to join it regardless of their budget. However, a 2,5 hour tour can pro-vide only the most general information. It´s impossible to squeeze in all the interesting things to see in Krakow into such a small amount of time. That´s why we offer other tours that give a deeper insight into specific topics. As we have to contract – and pay – specialized guides for these tours in advance, we also have to ask our guests to pay an attendance fee in advance. Tourism is one of the biggest businesses in the world, and we want to be part of it – but as a fair player. That´s why our prices for paid tours are very reasonable and we promise you that you will get best quality with us!

Is the transportation fee included in the ticket price?

Our tours do not include transportation. We provide walking tours.

Can you pick me up from my hotel?

All regular tours start from our meeting point in front of Saint Mary’s Church (Basilica) on the main square of Krakow (Rynek Główny 4). Private tours can be adjusted to your needs and preferences, so we can start from a location chosen by you.

Being late and weather conditions

What happens, if I´m late?

As we try to start our tours on time, we ask our guests to arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before starting time. If you have a reservation, it will expire 5 minutes before starting time. Due to organizational reasons, it is not possible to join a halfway through a tour or catch up with the group somewhere on the route.

What happens when it rains cats and dogs/it is snowing/it´s 40 C°?

We are 100% weather-resistant. Our tours operate 365 days per year, seven days a week. Just make sure to bring proper equipment, such as raincoats, umbrellas, sunscreen, hats or caps and wear appropriate shoes. If we have to cancel any tour we will inform about it on our website.
